He Knows
3 … for the Lord is a God who knows,
There are people in our life who know us—I mean really know us. It may be your spouse, a parent, a close friend, a relative, or even a co-worker that can take one look at you and know that something is up. My husband is that person in my life. He knows me better than anyone. He can tell when I am upset by how my voice sounds. Without even looking at me, he knows that something is wrong.
Even though that person for you may know something is wrong, he/she does not know exactly what is going on. He/she does not have the ability to see your heart. There is only One that can see your heart, your emotions, and your mind—who fully understands you based on the big picture of your life. God.
You see, He knows everything—the good, the bad, and the ugly. He knows your past, your present, and your future. God sees your thoughts, your fears, your deepest, darkest secrets that no one else in this world would ever know, yet He continues to love us and continues to draw us to Him.
Some may take this portion of First Samuel as a threat. It may provoke them to fear that God really does know what is going on inside their mind and heart! If you aren’t pursuing a relationship with the Heavenly Father, then yes, I am sure that is probably a frightening thought! You may feel as if God will strike you down because He does know every thought, every word, and every motive for your actions.
In my walk with Jesus, my Savior, I don’t get it right all the time. Let’s be real here. I probably don’t get it right most of the time, but I am not afraid of God. I am not afraid that God will cast me aside or strike me with lightning. Why? Because I know that God knows the intent and desire of my heart is to love Him with all of my heart, all of my soul, all of my mind, and all of my strength. (Mark 12:30) I know that based on God’s Word, on His character, on His very nature of love, that even though I may mess up or fail in my desire to walk with Him according to His Word, He will not push me away. I know that He will never leave me nor forsake me.
This word today is not just a testimony that I can give that God sees and knows, but the good news is that God wants this for you too! It is a message of hope for you as well! How? If you can accept that 1) God loves you unconditionally, 2) He wants to accept you into His Kingdom by forgiving you of all your sins, 3) He desires an intimate relationship with you, and 4) God wants what is best for you in the greater scheme of your life, then these words will bring life and hope! This passage will be one of great comfort. It really depends on you.
